Worst Day of My Life

May 2, 2009

FREAKING LONG ENTRY BTW

Okay first I just want to say that transferring all the photos one by one from my phone to the laptop by bluetooth was a bitch! Like I took a whole hour just manually transferring the photos! Cos somehow the dang cable wasn’t working! But nevermind.

Ya and secondly, pictures are from my 3.2MP sony ericsson K800i, so if the quality is unsavoury, faham faham lah.

Okay so the last day of April – 30th april! Left home after noon prayers and picked up my sister from her school to go to Mount Alvernia Hospital, which was like, a 5 minute drive from RIJC (haha).

My mum checked her in (wah macam hotel) and I followed her and the bell boy to her room.

Thanks Sadiksy.

And my sister was happily lounging around without a care in the world, texting her friends, making her usual weird noises and bouncing on the bed.

I wanted to grab her by the neck to shake her like OMG woman you’re having the first surgery in your life evahh in 3 hours and you’re acting amazingly cavalier!

Soon after the nurse told her to strip and gown up by 5. The nurse dropped off the surgery attire at around 4.

Surgery attire.

Since we all hadn’t eaten, I took the shuttle from Mount A to Novena MRT to get dinner for myself and my parents.

But of course, we all plan things. I got down the shuttle bus, went into Velocity (the shopping mall) and saw GASP GASP cotton on!

Ya so in that 50 mins (cos I had to catch the 5pm shuttle to be back in time), I went to get 2 pumps and a dress AND heaps of Old Chang Kee for my parents and I.

Heh. Aku efficient dok.

Okay side track abit but the pumps are so cute!

AND THE NAME OF THE PUMPS:

AMY FLAT!!!!!! HAHAHHAHAHA! So wrong lor.

And the other one was in such a pretty shade of green that I had to get it, and it looks so petani-ish I love it!

HAHA OKAY END OF SIDE TRACK.

So I get back to the hospital, trying to hide the damn cotton on plastic bag but it was so much bigger than the OCK one zomg.

I got back to the room and my sister was all “OMG Kau sempat pegi shop, kak?”

Haha I know right.

Sorry, stress made me like this.

She was already gowned up and we camwhored abit. Hurz.

Not long after the pakcik came with the stretcher thing to wheel her away.

They stopped her at the entrance of the OR just to double check her ID, allergies, etc etc.

AND SHE WAS STILL MAKING THOSE STUPID NOISES LIKE OMG WOMAN CAVALIER MUCHHHHH. But she was seriously excited about the surgery la, being in an OR for the first time and etc.

She had a junior (named Amalina) who had the exact same surgery a few months back (freaky shizz!) and her junior already prepped her for the intense maximus pain that would befall her post surgery.

Its excitement in her eyes.

And at that moment, a surgeon came out of the OR wheeling an incredibly small baby out to meet his daddy.

Such an awwww moment! The baby was SUPER SMALL OMG! I WANT ONE TOO!

She got tagged.

And the scrub nurse came to reconfirm her details and stuff.

And they whisked her away……….

The scrub nurse said that the surgery would take 2h at most. AT MOST.

So we sat at the waiting area and um, waited.

It was about 1h into it when I was about to lose it. Like I was going to freak out cos I couldn’t stop worrying. It was major. I texted a few of my sister’s close friends and they were like omg chill woman so I went to pray. Haha.

Ya we all need the inner peace.

All sorts of thoughts were running in my head la I just really needed to quell them.

2h into the surgery and my mum was having a major freak out episode. She was like, OMG WHY IS IT SO LONG! THEY SAID 2H! I WANT TO SEE MY BABY!

And she started praying and crying zomg.

Okay la, this was after she chilled abit and I told her to pose and she gave that crying/laughing/nak berak face – I really can’t decide. Haha my mum is so funny. But when I was consoling her, actually I was damn worried inside also.

3h. Still NOT OUT! WHAT ARE THE DOCTORS DOING WITH MY SISTER!!!!!! FREAK OUT MAJORRRRRRRRRRR.

And my DAD was watching our holiday videos on his HANDPHONE OMG. Why/how can he be so relack jack.

3h 15min, my mum and I started pacing outside the OR entrance hahahhahhaa, totally like what you see in the movies.

Pacing turned into peeking

MATCHING OUTFITS I TOLD YOU. (Ya its more purple than pink)

Then we saw the scrub nurse already out of her scrubs and we asked her how it was.

The nurse said my sister was “more than okay” and they were just waiting for her to come off the anesthesia.

Alhamdulillah.

3h 30, the nurse told us to sit within the waiting area of the ORs.

And my sister’s surgery box came out.

3h 45 finally they wheeled my sister out and she was silently crying and violently shivering because it was so cold in there.

OMG it was such a heart wrenching sight, I felt like a piece of my heart died.

I held her hand and she just said one word – pain.

The medical staff transferred her back to her bed.

Soon after she was put on a painkiller drip that sent her straight to sleep.

Her friends buzzed in saying that they were downstairs and denied entry due to “directives from MOH”. I tried getting them in, but the assy guards didn’t allow.

My uncle, aunt and cousins were downstairs as well.

SIGH WHAT A NIGHT! I was just so emotionally drained la. Seriously this was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with. It was really damn hard on me.

The doctor told us to go home since my sister would be out asleep anyway. So we packed and I left her a note saying that we would be back tomorrow.

But because of the orange alert, we got to know that only 1 person was allowed to visit and I really wanted to be at her side so I offered to stay the night so that my mum could come visit the next day.

Thank God I stayed cos when I got back to her room, she was awake. I felt so bad because I didn’t want her to feel sad that we all left her alone, so I was kind of relieved that I was staying the night.

Since the pain killers kicked in and she was in less pain, it was nice to see her being all chatty.

Sister: OMG you know the OR is like the coolest place ever! I heard this beeping noise and totally thought it was linked to my heart beat so to test my theory I purposely made myself breathe faster -breathes in and out at a heightened rate- and OMG kak the beeping noise really went faster OMG ITS DAMN COOL.

TENGOK LAH BENDA MACAM GINI DIA BUAT MAIN!

Sister: Oh yah and the scrub nurse asked me just before the surgery how I was feeling, and I said I was excited.

Me: OMG You’re a freak.

Sister: Ya and she was like “wow! That’s the first time I’m hearing that.”

WHY SHE LIKE THAT AH WHY!

Haha so she talked to a few of her friends and I told her to sleep and get some rest while I went to bathe and borrowed her shorts to wear with the tank top that I was already wearing hahaha.

By the time I finished praying, it was close to midnight and the ward was dark so I took my notes to the corridor to study a bit.

By 130 I was pooped so I went inside to sleep on the visitor’s chair by my sister’s bed.

The nurse came in every hour to take her temperature and BP.

By 4am, I couldn’t sleep! So I went to the couch outside where I studied, to sleep for a bit. Haha. Slept till 5 then I went back in again.

Slept till 6 when the nurse came in to take the temperature. So I did my morning prayers and lazed around somemore.

GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE!

By morning she looked quite okay la, not as pale as last night after surgery.

My mum came around 8, which was also around the time her breakfast came.

It was good la, she could eat and wasn’t nauseous or anything. Alhamdulillah. My sister’s a tough chick and I’m so proud of her.

Her surgeon came at around 845 to tell her about the surgery.

It took twice as long because!

The tendon he initially wanted to harvest was super tiny! So he couldn’t use that tendon and had to make another incision to harvest part of the patellar tendon to graft on her cruciate ligament. It was a full tear, he said. (zomg)

He was like “You have really tiny tendons!” hahahah damn cute la the doctor.

Ya so grafting the patellar tendon was a more complicated procedure thats why he took so long.

Aiyoh amelina amelina kasi pening!!!

Well so the entire of today was just spent sleeping, eating and changing of drip bags.

lunch

And around 3 I updated my blog, after she updated hers.

Ya and after that it was more sleeping.

And eating.

Haha when we left, my sister was watching the news and totally being her usual kental self so leaving wasn’t so hard. Plus the nurse also took her off the drip.

She hopefully gets discharged tomorrow (Sat) and I can’t wait for her to come home. I really think there’s noone in this world whom I love more than my weird little sister.

In the meantime, holy smokes its 2am. I just wasted 2h doing this haha and so I should really start studying.

Hur hur kthxbye.

i guess its the shizz from her surgery cos got her name and after that they put it in biohazard.

  3. fairuz Says:

cool they let ur sister do this elective surgery in this time. most elective surgeries in public hospitals are getting postponed coz of swine flu. ACL tear? goood luck with the recovery process. don’t miss physio.

  4. amyy Says:

ya ACL! ya after the surgery then they declared orange alert! So super thankful that he could do it. Eh the doctor told us to push her knee to forcefully straighten the leg!!! damn scary sia later break how!

  5. fairuz Says:

the ACL is gonna be under greater strain with the knees bent. so straightening the leg actually helps. i think. haha. i havent done ortho.

haha that time i had a minor op to remove this buccal cyst. it was probably an hour and i was on LA so i was awake. the OT is really quite facinating so i pretty much spent most of the time analyzing the readings on the machines since i kinda learnt about them. haha i was like going through the motion of the heart and the blood circulation while calculating my ECG patterns. and looking at all the bottles of drugs by the side and recalling what the hell they were used for. then suddenly one hour was over. SO FAST!
send my regards to ur sis!
