Jumper at Tampines MRT

August 7, 2007

Sigh.

Not again.

I was probably the first few people to know about it because my family and I were on the way home from work/school (we all meet at Clementi everyday and carpool back home) when my dad (he works for SMRT duh. pump train tyres) received an sms saying “one under Tampines 2″ (yeah I don’t understand the MRT lingo either) and a few more saying that it was a jumper and not a freak accident.

*Edit: From the sudden influx of readers I’m getting, please don’t take my word for the suicide. Its best to wait for the news report. Or whatever.

Why do people do such things la, why?

If you want to end your life, can you please not make a mess out of it?

I pity the people who have to clean up the mess of human guts and flesh all over the tracks AND the train. I can imagine how difficult it is because hello I’m a chemist, I clean difficult things everyday! Try cleaning polymer out of a reactor propeller! Its close to impossible! Its so difficult to get those polymers that are stuck in those hard to reach nook and crannies.

Imagine that, but 2000 times the size and 3000 times the complexity! Its a freaking train! Ewww.

And blood! And everything else cut up into parts and spread out over the length of the track AND train.

Freaking grossness la.

My JC GP teacher said something to us once. It was about pre martial sex among youths. More so those who live on campus, taking American universities as an example. The universities cannot prevent nor stop their students from engaging in sexual activities, so they sell condoms. To at least ensure that its safe sex. Because whether they like it or not, their students will have sex anyway.

So since we cannot prevent these people from jumping off MRT tracks/committing suicide (plus its THEIR choice to end their life anyway), we should have like a Suicide Centre. Yes it sounds morbid, (hello, jumping off MRT platforms to be sliced by a train is not morbid?!) but at least at the suicide centre, it won’t make a mess.

So like in the centre, those people who want to commit suicide will all go there right. So they will have to sit through a pep talk session to make them reconsider their decision. Those who change their minds, good for them. Those who don’t proceed to Station #2 and pay a fee depending on how they want to end their life.

There’ll be a range of activities. A list of poisons to choose from, consumption of ethylene glycol, noose, electric chair, suffocation, CO poisoning.. See, all clean ways right? After that proceed to Station #3 where they will pay for their funeral services, cremation or whatever.

(okay fine if the payment part is a deterrent, then make it free!)

Station #4 and its done!

Personally I would recommend ethylene glycol because its sweet. At least the last thing they taste before they die is sweet right. Not some nasty tasting thing like cyanide or something. Plus it doesn’t take much to die. 30ml/5mg or so is more than sufficient. Since its miscible with water, its can always be mixed with a favourite drink!

Seriously, people have to stop jumping off MRT platforms. MRT stations are becoming death hubs. SMRT should seriously consider installing those barriers that are present in underground stations at all above ground stations as well.

Imagine the trauma caused to the train driver, the passengers! Such a selfish act of one person.

My sister smsed her friend immediately and her friend told her that she just got off the train at Simei, which means that…. her train was probably the one which hit the person at Tampines! Imagine if the poor girl had remained on the train (because she was actually contemplating whether to drop at Simei or Tampines)! Ohh the trauma.

I would be traumatised for life, I swear! Knowing that I was on a train which sliced someone to shreds.

I think the train service stops at Tampines for now. So there’s no train for the Pasir Risians. YOU SEE! Just because someone decides to die, people in Pasir Ris have no train home!

So selfish!

  3. [...] I work at Tampines.  Yesterday, the train service between Pasir Ris and Tampines was disrupted.  I’m guessing that someone committed suicide.  Woke up today and couldn’t find any confirmation in the newspaper.  Came to work and Googled about it.  It looks like a suicide case from this blog post. Jumper – Third Eye Blind

I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, that you’ve been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand.
    I would understand,
The angry boy, a bit too insane,
    Icing over a secret pain,
    You know you don’t belong,
You’re the first to fight, You’re way too loud,
You’re The flash of light, On a burial shroud,
    I know something’s wrong,
Well everyone I know has got a reason, To say, put the past away,

I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, That you’ve been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand,
    I would understand.

Well he’s on the table, And he’s gone to code,
And I do not think anyone knows,
    What they are doing here,
And your friends have left, You’ve been dismissed,
I never thought it would come to this, And I, I want you to know,
Everyone’s got to face down the demons,
Maybe today, We can put the past away,

I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, that you’ve been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand,
    I would understand,
    I would understand…

Can you put the past away, I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,

    I would understand…

Lydia: Haha the suicide centre was meant as a joke but you know, something has to be done since the MRT tracks seem to be appealing to some suicidal people. But yeah, I think it’d be cool. Morbid, but smart. Haha. I ain’t promoting suicide either, but what to do, poeple don’t value their own lives anymore.
